First Aid / Emergencies

The goal and priority at this project site is ZERO ACCIDENTS and ZERO INJURIES.   At the same time, we must be prepared to respond promptly and effectively if someone is injured or taken ill.

  MINOR INJURIES
Self-administered first aid is the preferred response to minor cuts, abrasions and burns.  This protects exposing other persons to the blood, body fluids and potential bloodborne pathogens of the injured person.  Each subcontractor should have proper first aid facilities on the project site for their employees.  There also is a First Aid Station in the project Construction Office.

  SERIOUS INJURIES & MEDICAL EMERGENCIES
Call 9-1-1 immediately using your company cell phone.  Designate someone to go to the Main Gate, flag down arriving emergency units and direct them to the victim's location on the project site.  Unless the victim is confronted with an immediate danger to life and health, DO NOT move him or her.  If you have been trained in first aid and CPR, you may render whatever assistance is appropriate as a Good Samaritan until Emergency Medical Services personnel arrive.  Latex medical gloves and one-way CPR masks are available in the first aid stations maintained on the project site and with subcontractor operations.

  REPORT ALL INJURIES & INCIDENTS
Notify the Project Superintendent or the Project Manager as quickly as possible -- and no later than the end of the shift.  Serious accidents, incidents and "near misses" will be investigated by the subcontractor's designated personnel and WPM project management staff.
